Purina Supporting St. Louis Neighbors Impacted by Recent Tornado

ST. LOUIS, May 20, 2025 -- In response to the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck St. Louis on May 16, claiming at least five lives, injuring dozens, and damaging over 5,000 buildings, Nestle’ Purina PetCare is collaborating with St. Louis City and County officials, as well as numerous community partners, to identify the most pressing community needs and respond accordingly.

Purina has committed more than $50,000 to support emergency relief efforts, including the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund and the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund. This funding will support both short- and long-term recovery efforts. On Thursday, May 22, which is Purina Cares Day – the company’s annual day of service -- employee volunteers will work alongside the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the APA Adoption Center to distribute food and pet supplies to people and pets in need. The event takes place at Ballpark Village in downtown St. Louis from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., when people can pick-up free food for themselves and their pets.

Purina is also hosting a drive asking associates to donate urgently needed supplies for relief and recovery efforts. Purina will continue working in partnership with the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the Humane Society of Missouri to provide pet food for displaced families and pets in the weeks and months ahead.

"We believe it is our responsibility to support our neighbors in times of need, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and communities impacted by the recent tornado," said Kim Beardslee, Director of Community Affairs at Purina. "We are committed to supporting local relief efforts to ensure that both people and pets receive the assistance they need to recover and rebuild."

Purina's actions are part of its broader commitment to supporting people and pets in the wake of natural disasters. Through numerous strategic partnerships, Purina continues to deliver timely aid to areas impacted by crises, ensuring that pets and their families receive the resources they need to recover. Overall, Purina has donated more than $150 million in product and monetary support during the past five years to the St. Louis area and the 23 communities where the company owns factories in the United States.
