Local nonprofits benefit from volunteer efforts of 1,000+ Purina associates in one day
Nestlé Purina associates made a difference in the lives of St. Louis-area pets and people during PetCare Pride Day, the company's annual day of volunteering, held May 24.
More than 1,000 St. Louis-based associates boarded buses for off-site projects and grabbed drills, paint brushes, screwdrivers, scissors and other tools at Nestlé Purina’ Headquarters campus to make baby and pet blankets, dog houses, cat beds, care kits, ready-to-eat meals and hope chests.
By the numbers:
50 associates helped prepare the Laclede Landing Dog Park for the park’s complete makeover later this summer.
20 associates performed a makeover at Animal House, painting a mural and the exterior of the entire building.
100 associates spent their mornings at four Brightside St. Louis gardening projects.
100 associates lent their efforts at the Ferguson, Missouri, Food Pantry.
40 associates went to the Community Care Center in Granite City, Illinois, to help organize the food pantry and clothing donations, as well as serve lunch.
Associates on campus:
made 170 fleece baby blankets for children at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois
assembled 7,500 ready-to-eat meals and 1,000 personal care kits for the homeless
made 300 care kits for veterans at two local Missouri Veterans hospitals
put together 15 toy boxes and 12 hope chests for children and mothers at Almost Home
constructed 45 dog houses, 75 cat bunk beds, 150 dog beds and 170 pet blankets for area pet shelters
assembled 1,000 Purina Pet Packs for new adopters at area shelters
Nestlé Purina also donated $5,000 to four agencies that received volunteers for the day. Their representatives all expressed surprise at the gifts when thanking associates at the event’s closing ceremony.
“Working as a team, we were able to accomplish an extraordinary amount of good work for a lot of people and pets in our community,” said Joe Sivewright, CEO.
PetCare Pride Day is one way Nestlé Purina is making a positive impact in the community for pets and the people who love them. In 2015, the company donated $31.5 million worth of pet food, pet supplies and monetary contributions to pet-related charities and other community organizations across the country. Nestlé Purina also lends support to pet shelters by providing tools and resources to help get more pets adopted and education and networking opportunities for shelter professionals for continuing education.
The event also coincided with National Pet Month. Read more about how Purina is celebrating at www.RollOverHunger.com
