Surrounded by members of the Malone Student Council, Malone Parent Group and Prescott School District Employees, Representatives from Nestlé Purina’s Hager City, Wisconsin manufacturing facility presented a “big check” representing their $19,000 grant. This generous donation provided the final funding for the recently installed age-appropriate playground equipment at Malone Intermediate School.
The project was spearheaded by Malone Parent Committee and Prescott School District in September. Through fundraising, community and business support, and grants, less than $20,000 of the $62,000 equipment cost remained to be funded by the end of October. That’s when Nestlé Purina stepped in with a community grant for the remaining cost.
“We were absolutely thrilled that Nestlé Purina was able to partner with us on this important project,” said Tracy Collins, MPC President. “With their support, we were able to provide an important option for student physical activity for all seasons. Going into the winter months, that option is very important for this age group.”
Principal Deanne Edlefsen added, “This equipment purchase includes lessons for physical education, which will enhance our options for structured play. In addition to benefitting our students, it is a great community play area after school hours, as well.”
“Purina has been a part of this community for over 40 years, and we are passionate about supporting great local organizations like Prescott School District that help make our area a great place to live and work,” said Kip Stevenson, Purina Facility Manager in Hager City. “We are proud to be able to support this project – it’s a wonderful asset for the students and families in Prescott and the surrounding areas.”
Nestlé Purina is committed to serving the needs to the communities where they operate, with a primary focus on organizations that support the well-being of pets and the people who love them. In 2015, Purina donated $31.5 million worth of pet food, pet supplies and monetary contributions to pet-related charities and other community organizations across the country.
“We are so grateful for every level of support for this project. It was truly a community effort and our students will benefit for many years,” noted Superintendent Dr. Rick Spicuzza.
Along with the Nestlé Purina grant, grant funding was provided by Malone Parent Committee, GameTime, and Allina Health. Many community members and businesses also donated funds, including Malone Student Council Advisory, Ptacek’s IGA, River City Stitch, Philander’s, Dairy Queen, Peg’s Bakery, Golden Lotus Salon, Toninato Family Dentistry, Armory Dental LLC, and many individual donors.
