ST. LOUIS, April 27, 2022 – As firefighters continue efforts to contain wildfires burning across the southwest, Purina announced a $10,000 grant to the United Way of Northern Arizona’s Crisis Response Fund to support those impacted by the Tunnel Fire. Purina’s donation will support families with immediate needs now and in the future, as they return to and rebuild their communities. The Tunnel Fire is the largest of more than a dozen wildfires in the southwest and is currently burning just 14 miles from Purina’s Flagstaff factory.
"Our hearts are with those affected by the devastating wildfires burning in the southwest, especially with our associates and neighbors in Flagstaff who have been displaced by the Tunnel Fire,” said Kim Beardslee, Director of Community Affairs. "Purina has a long history of supporting communities in the wake of natural disasters, and we’re proud to partner with the United Way to support their important work during this time of great need.”
At this time, the Tunnel Fire has burned over 21,000 acres and is 15 percent contained. Hundreds of families in northern Arizona have been displaced. In addition to granting financial assistance to victims of the Tunnel Fire, Purina provided a large donation of pet food to the Coconino Humane Society, which is temporarily caring for pets of those who have been displaced.
In times of natural disaster, Purina provides timely support to people and pets in need by working with nonprofit partners to deliver pet food, litter and funding to areas that are being impacted. Since 2017, Purina has donated more than $385,000 and more than 650,000 pounds of Purina pet food and cat litter to support victims of natural disasters across the United States.
